A Sensor Brush for every camera model. The two most useful tools for cleaning loose particles and dust from the image sensor are a good Sensor Cleaning Brush and a good quality Air Blower!

Using a Sensor Brush, such as the D-SLR™ Brush and a quality Air Blower, such as Giotto Rocket Air™, it is a simple matter to remove loose particles and dust. If you keep the camera body and lenses clean, you may never need and other method.

Of course, if the sensor has become smeared and particles, such as pollen, becomes stuck to the surface of the sensor filter then physical cleaning may be necessary. This requires much greater care and you may prefer to leave the risks to a professional service facility.

Let’s take a look at the result you can achieve by using the brush and air method only. The following 3 actual images shows the before and after results:

Before cleaning the sensor on a Nikon D2x
This is the condition of the Sensor Filter Surface before cleaning. The camera was a Nikon D2x
that sees a lot of use. As you can see there was a LOT of debris present.
After just one sweep with a D-SLR brush
Here is the result after just a SINGLE SWEEP - before using any air - across the sensor filter surface.
As you can see the result is excellent. There are just a few remnants left which was to be
expected taking the original condition into account.
Final result after air and brush cleaning.
... and here is the final result after puffing out the sensor chamber with some air and sweeping
the surface twice more. As you can see there was no need for physical cleaning and the result
achieved with just the D-SLR Sensor Brush and an Air Blower.

Should the spots be stuck to the surface or smears are present we provide a professional cleaning service as following:

  • Removal of fluff, fibers, dust, and mount shavings from inside the mirror box and prism chamber.
  • Clean-up and lubrication of the body lens mount and communication contacts.
  • External clean-up and dust-off of camera body. Dust-out of AF sensor and mirrors, and viewfinder clean-up.
  • Inspection of the CCD / filter surface, dust-out sensor chamber and physical cleaning of smears and spots using the highest purity non-residual cleaning fluid and materials.
  • Test images are exposed before and after service and inspected at 200% magnification. When we are satisfied of the cleanliness a final test image is stored on our computer and a copy returned with your camera if a card was supplied.
  • We will also report on any abnormalities such as ‘hot’ or ‘dead’ pixels which may require future attention.

By investing in a Sensor Brush and a Rocket Air Blower so you can quickly remove any new loose or stray particles yourself. A quicker, but slightly more costly method, is the DUST-AID system which removes particles instantly by lifting them off using an adhesive pad on a wand. The Dust-Aid Platinum kit is a very compact travel companion.

You can make appointment to bring the camera to our workshop for same day service. Alternately you can mail the camera to us - we offer fast turn-around - usually within 2 working days.
For same day service we will need the camera for up to 3 hours. Please bring fully charged batteries, A/C coupler (and a blank image card if you would like a copy of the final test image).
